Technology Readiness Level Model
The 9jaLearn Innovation Journey
At 9jaLearn, we believe great innovations start with simple ideas. What many innovators need is the right guidance, tools, and environment to transform those ideas into real solutions that create impact.
Our platform supports innovators through a structured pathway based on the Technology Readiness Level (TRL) model, originally developed by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration to help move technologies from research to real-world deployment.
Through our Innovation to Impact Program, learners progress step-by-step from idea development to market-ready innovation.
The 5 Stages of Innovation
A structured pathway from concept to market
TRL 1–2
Stage 1
Idea Discovery
Every innovation begins with identifying a problem worth solving.
At this stage, participants learn to:
- Identify real-world challenges
- Generate innovative solutions
- Explore feasibility of ideas
- Understand potential impact
9jaLearn mentors guide innovators to refine their ideas into structured concepts.
TRL 3
Stage 2
Concept Validation
In this stage, innovators begin testing whether their ideas can actually work.
At this stage, participants learn to:
- Conduct small experiments
- Validate assumptions
- Explore technical possibilities
- Refine their innovation concept
The goal is to confirm that the idea has real potential.
TRL 4 - 5
Stage 3
Prototype Development
Here, innovators begin building the first working versions of their solutions.
Using our practical learning tracks, participants can develop prototypes in areas such as:
- Hydroponic farming systems
- Smart irrigation technology
- AI applications
- Renewable energy solutions
- Fabrication and product design
This stage focuses on turning ideas into tangible solutions.
TRL 6–7
Stage 4
Innovation Demonstration
Once prototypes are developed, the next step is testing them in real environments.
Participants will:
- Test innovations with users
- Improve design and functionality
- Demonstrate working solutions
- Validate market needs
This stage prepares innovators for pilot projects and early adoption.
TRL 8– 9
Stage 5
Market Readiness
At the final stage, innovations become fully developed products or services ready for market deployment.
Participants will:
- Build sustainable business models
- Prepare investor pitches
- Launch startup ventures
- Scale innovations to reach larger markets
At this stage, innovators are ready to participate in national and international innovation opportunities such as the NextGen Innovation Challenge 2026 organized by the National Board for Technology Incubation.
